Getting your charity Involved
The city of Liverpool is unforgettable whether you are enthralled by its industrial or musical past or excited and enthused by the vibrant potential of its present and future.
Sunday 9th October 2011 will be remembered as an important day in the sporting and fundraising calendar as the first staging of a new and dynamic endurance event, The Liverpool Marathon. It is the biggest running event in the city and complements the extensive road race portfolio that has been established by RunLiverpool in the last decade.
Thousands of runners took to the streets of the Wirral and Liverpool and reported back on the amazing atmosphere and warm support from the famous Scouse crowds.
An ambitious 5 year plan expects to see the RunLiverpool Marathon firmly positioned as THE marathon event that people want to do after London. That is a big aspiration but we believe is achievable given the heritage and modern day profile of the city.
We have a team of experienced, professional event and charity coordinators to advise and support you when you become affiliated to RunLiverpool. Our aim is to build a relationship with you to ensure you get the best possible results from your involvement with us.
If you would like to find out more about the Charity Assured Places (CAP) Scheme we will send you a charity prospectus if you email caroline@runliverpoolmarathon.co.uk
Why bother?
Have you ever thought about running for charity and then thought – why bother? What’s the point?
Well, of course each charity has its own reasons for wanting you to raise funds for them and each one is a great cause and worthy of your attention.
But actually, before you wonder where to start in choosing your charity or even if you should bother there are some other points about running for charity you might like to consider.
Training for a marathon is hard work. Your chosen charity can often encourage you to keep going and sometimes they can even help with training plans and tips.
Most of them will give you stuff for free like running vests!
Most of the charities offer a post-race hospitality option so you can get refreshments, maybe a massage and a pat on the back when you’re finished. It also means your friends and family have somewhere to wait for you.
Your chosen charity will help you put the ‘fun’ back in to fundraising. Cheesy but true! They have lots of ideas and support to help you reach your fundraising target without having to rely on a soggy sponsor ship sheet.
Why not enjoy your 15 minutes of fame? It’s easy to get your face in the local papers, local radio or even TV when you’re running for charity. Obviously, that’s because you’re worth it!
While every person who crosses the start line in a marathon is already a winner charity runners are the true heroes of the day. You will be amazed at the warmth and support you get from the crowds on route – and from a Scouse crowd that’s an experience you’ll remember for a long time.
So what are you waiting for? The real question is why wouldn’t you run for charity?
Good Luck!
